NPR — Graphic Designer

overview
Live from Oklahoma City, I'm Nate Ward: a Creative Director, Brand Strategist, Designer, and Audiophile with a passion for Radio. Except, I only have two stations programmed thrice across the six buttons in my car: 91.7 KOSU—where I am a member—and 105.7 KGOU. I listen to NPR, on average, 3 hours a day. I love the fact based news and information I find, as well as the different perspectives that are brought to conversations. My favorite shows are On Point, Morning Edition, WWDTM, and Ask Me Another (RIP).

I am confident that my track record as a Creative Director, my passion for NPR, and my unique perspective as a non-binary, millennial, Choctaw Tribal Citizen, would converge to serve this role in a way that few other candidates could. I have an extensive background in branding podcasts from cover art, to creating custom theme music and interstitials for sponsorship breaks. I have experience working with National brands including Cox Business, Sporto, Chicago Title, Ceva, Google, Eddie Bauer, and Thunderbird Films.

In 2015, My partner and I started Half Design, an agency focused on branding with belief and curiosity. Since its foundation, we have helped a multitude of local organizations and individuals clarify their communications from political candidates to reproductive justice organizations and state initiative petitions. My favorite projects from last year include this report on the carceral state in Oklahoma, as well as this interactive report with The Frontier on the McGirt v Oklahoma case, and this brand for an inclusive floral studio. In these projects I was responsible for Creative Direction, as well as the actual execution and development of the solutions. I have a team that offers administrative support, and I sometimes bring in freelancers to assist on projects (such as hiring a Person of Color to help bring a necessary perspective to our Black Lives Matter OKC rebrand)—but with these projects, what you see is an extremely accurate representation of my capabilities, flexibility, and commitment to solving problems.

Thank you for your consideration!
